Musically Yours, GV - EP08 | LyricScope - Parallels in Compositions ft. Akhilandeshwari
The idea of LyricScope is to try to comprehend and uncover the layers that the composer has embedded in a composition.
Very often, the intention and the impact behind the composition reveal themselves after many years of singing. It may be a single word or a phrase that can lead us to understand the meaning from a different perspective.
The great composers Sri Shyama Sastri and
Sri Muthuswamy Dikshithar had immense knowledge of the Upanishadic Truth.
They worshiped Goddess Akhilandeswari as the Divine Feminine form of the Supreme Consciousness. Their genius was fusing melodic music with divinely inspired lyrics to create an intensely spiritual experience.
Looking at these two compositions - Sankari Samkuru (Saveri) and Jambupathe (Yamuna Kalyani), I am wonder-struck by how strikingly similar phrases the two great Vaggeyakaras employed in describing an attribute of the Goddess.
Shyama Sastri evocatively portrays her as Kambu Kandhare - one who is conch-necked.
While Dikshithar in his epochal Jambupathe defines Her as "Kambu Kantya" - whose
throat is as shapely as a conch.
These great musician-composers and many eminent composers understood the Ultimate reality, the nature of the Self, and the Brahman (Pure Consciousness). They passed down to us compositions that convey their profound insights in simple and easily understood lyrics.
We enjoyed dwelling on these kritis. Let us know if you have similar observations. Waiting to hear from you.

A fascinating aspect of Ragas is that they evoke varied emotions like warmth, tenderness, happiness, and devotion that can vary widely among different individuals. They elicit a distinctly unique feeling within the same person at different times. Yadukula Kambodhi is one raga that has resonated with me since the time I started learning music. Whenever I sing a kriti, or an alapana in Yadukula K...

A delightful conversation between the composer and Mahalakshmi Devi, here the composer seems to implore upon Her to bless us all. " If you will it Devi , anything is possible; Is there anything that cannot be manifested? O Goddess whose eyes are like lotus petals" , he says. In the Anupallavi he states, "It is common in human life for sorrow and happiness to alternate , but all that is part of ...

Wow. What a treasure to cherished . Feels blessed to watch these priceless episodes ❤❤❤
Beautiful comparisons
Arumaiana episode I like very much
Shyama shastri the genius.
Excellent speech mam
Very nice
Beautiful episode ❤
So happy to note 🙏
Lovely !! Shyama sastri has composed such masterpieces and your episode brought out some of the lesser known aspects of his compositions!! Very nice to see parallels between the compositions of 2 great composers !! Similar to the azhwars who were all supposed to say the same thing differently in their pasurams ( eka Kanta) !!
Very true our great composers and Saints have come out with some unique thoughts that help reiterate the ideas and thought process they had in expressing BHAKTHI.
Connecting the compositions of different mahans , and the reason for singing them on a particular deity, explaining them with the beautiful singing is what makes this special.thank you akka for bringing such episodes
Thank you Vasudha ! Well work on these together ❤
These "Saveri" kriti charanams, which are more descriptive of Sri Ambal Sri Akhilandeshwari's, are rarely sung, and mostly conclude with the charanam carrying Pujya Mahan Sri Shyama Shastrigal"s Mudra... nicely elucidated by Smt GV.. Jamboopathe is too too good to hear, one with deeper meaning, in wonderful yamuna kalyani, like Sri Ambal Herself singing in chouka kalam.. God Bless and may you bring out more more on these divinities.. ..
Thank you for this lovely note! A unique blessing🙏🙏
It’s wonderful to hear you once again- talk and sing! The tradition of multiple charanams date back to Tamizh moovar, esp Muthu thandavar. Each charanam had extraordinary meaning intertwined into the words. Singing those were equivalent to doing a great worship to the Lord of Dance.
That’s so true Akka and coming from you it’s a important point to note 🙏🙏
I like this krithi very much so nice
That’s true beautiful kritis indeed 🙏
ஸ்ரீ அகிலாண்டேஸ்வரி கருணை உணர்ந்து கொண்டேன் 🎉🎉🎉🎉
🙏🙏
Now that you have mentioned it, you should start the trend of singing all charaNams of every kriti in your concerts. Change the format. Even if 4/5 full kriits are in a concert, it should be enough for the rasikas. Will also inspire them to read the meaning and enjoy the composer's skills and bakthi better.
We can do atleast one kriti this way :)
Please do in tamizh.
Sir this is for it to reach the next gen and other states as well. Hope we can do some in Tamizh too.
For me this was one of the best episodes, so far: It is pure mediation and the greatness of this Jambupathe Krithi, as I read elsewhere, is as follows: Dikshitar’s choice of ragas for some of his great compositions, his choice of Yamuna Kalyani for “Jambupate” is very intriguing. “Jambupate Maam Pahi” is a krithi which forms part of the set of 5 compositions covering the pancabhuta kshetras namely Kanchipuram (prithvI), Kalahasti,(vAyu), Tiruvannamalai (agnI) , Jambukeshvarar (jala/appU) and Cidambaram (AkAsa),
It’s always interesting to read your perspective 🙏
Akhilandeshwari is such a close to heart deity, and it's always mind boggling to be there in Thiruvainaika and it does something to one, from within! So amazing to see the perspective of composers on Akhila and the magnanimity of her and the kshetra! Delightful episode akka❤
Thank you Aakash wonderful to have you with me while recording. Felt like a conversation:)
Namaste mam Iam also missing your concert in Bangalore Please come once soon
Sure ma ❤🙏
Came to know that your concert in Mumbai was excellent,I missed it.
Hope we catch up next time I 🙏
Love your soul ful rendition… Enjoy your Bhavam, in the song .. Blessings to you & the family.
Very nice showcasing the raga 😊
Gayatri Ma'am's singing is really good ! 🌺☘️
Finally finede perfect Nalinakanthi 🙇🙇🙇✨💛
Monday than nan dharisanam pannitu vanthen Mam...Same day you post this...
🎉
Very soulful rendition of a noble, sublime song! Hearty thanks for uploading this wonderful musical treat to rasikas! 🎉🎉🙏🙏
I am your fan .You are not only a great singer but a good speaker too.Enjoying each one of your videos. Keep it up.
Very interesting presentation
Very nice presentation
Very nice video.Your singing is very melodious and full of Bhaavam
In Taluku chekkula … it is not MUNI. It is MUNU tapamemi… meaning “earlier”
Most of the listeners would have experienced the moods that are associated with yadukula kambodhi. All Kritis are beautiful but Sri Thyagaraja's stands out the way you mentioned it: pallavi shrI rAma raghurAma shrngAra rAmayani cintinca rAdE O manasA caraNam 1 taluku cekkula muddu beTTu kausalya munu tapamEmi jEsenO teliya.
Gomathi Ammaan patri varnanai EdhukulakambothiRaga. mind blowing enna urukkam Arumai
Romba Santhosham :)
I feel a deep effortless connect when I sing the Raga Varali, in fact Kanakana Ruchira is my favourite Pancharatna Kriti Raga Charukeshi makes me feel grateful for all those who have nurtured me Raga Surya gives me the feeling of reverence Raga Bhupalam gives me a feeling of surrender Many more Ragas help me connect with different emotions, this is very interesting
So glad to read this , pinned so others can read these thoughts too :)
Surrender , nurture , reverence ❤🙏
